An uninterruptible power supply or uninterruptible power source (UPS) is an electrical apparatus that provides emergency power to a load when the input power source fails. It is supposed to kick in when there is a power outage. A UPS is typically used to protect hardware such as computers, data centers, telecommunication equipment, medical devices, or other electrical equipment where an unexpected power disruption could cause injuries, fatalities, serious business disruption or data loss. Because of recent problems, Erickson Corporate is in the process of replacing a number of UPSes around the campus to make sure that Wi-Fi services stay up during a power outage. They are moving to lithium-ion batteries. They have hired a contractor to manage the UPSes.
