Charlestown Resident and Employee Mission Moment Program

What is a Charlestown Mission Moment?

Mission Moment is an opportunity to recognize and honor residents among us who have demonstrated in a specific way the values originally promoted by founder John Erickson to enable harmonious community living. While these values should guide everyone’s actions here at Charlestown, residents are invited to notice and celebrate those whose specific kindness has made a genuine difference to the nominator.

The Erickson Values include

  • Respect and Caring: We encourage and practice cordial and responsive interactions with residents and their family members, staff, and others on campus. We endeavor to maintain positive relationships even under difficult circumstances. We reach out to and assist others in need.
  • Diversity: We seek to understand and embrace a wide variety of traditions, cultures, and preferences. We are open to welcoming everyone. We welcome and acknowledge diverse thoughts, ideas, and input.
  • Friendliness and Enthusiasm: We smile, say hello, and greet people by name. We eagerly model behaviors that create positive interactions with others.
  • Integrity: We practice truth and honesty. We address and report unethical behavior. We refrain from generating or spreading rumors.
  • Responsibility: We are personally accountable for our own actions. We step forward when we see a need. We practice good stewardship when using the community’s resources. We cooperate so that issues for both residents and employees are addressed and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Excellence: We build lasting relationships within the community, both residents and staff, by putting others first. We volunteer our own skills in the service of others. We evaluate past experiences and implement steps to improve interactions. We make suggestions for improving services and processes.
  • Teamwork: We gratefully recognize and acknowledge the value of everyone’s contributions. We demonstrate and encourage mutual trust and support. We work together to respond to an individual or community need.

How do I nominate a resident for Mission Moment honors?

A resident who catches one or more residents doing good is asked to submit their name(s) and a summary of how, specifically, they have demonstrated the Erickson Values. Tell the story of the event. Nominations may be sent by email (preferred) to Mission Moment Coordinator Marianne Reichelt. For contact information, see Resident Directory. .

If you prefer to type or handwrite a nomination using a nomination form, forms are available at My Erickson/Forms or from this page at https://ccicharlestown.org/resident-activities/mission-moments. Paper nominations should be placed in Marianne’s cubby. Please include the name, apartment number, and phone number of the person writing the nomination.

What happens to my nomination after it is submitted?

All submissions are forwarded to the Mission Moment Committee for approval. Once the Committee approves the nomination, the Mission Moment Honoree(s) will be notified. Their permission will be sought for their inclusion in an article in the monthly Sunburst. The Honoree(s) and the Nominator will also be acknowledged at the next monthly Residents’ Council meeting.

While the Mission Moment Team realizes that no one who performs a kindness here does it for the recognition, allowing us to publish a brief account in The Sunburst celebrating a resident’s kindness accomplishes three things: it acknowledges the act of kindness; it acknowledges the nominator’s gratitude in taking the time to create the nomination; and it serves as a very practical example for other residents of ways in which they might also serve one another. In this way, we all continue to promote positive personal and community relationships.

If you have additional questions, please call Marianne Reichelt, using her contact information in the Resident Directory.

We look forward to receiving your nominations!

We thank Gloria Palladi and Charlotte Poore for their long and valued service on the Mission Moment Committee as they conclude their tenure. Current Mission Moment Committee members are Marianne Reichelt, Coordinator. Virginia Antevil, Lois Eldred, Ed (William) Lilley, Fran Maczis, Mel Milio, Trudy Portewig, Roberta Poulton, and Linda Godley Smith.

How do I recognize an employee for demonstrating the Erickson Values in an extraordinary way?

In addition to participating in resident Mission Moment nominations, many residents also wish to recognize employees for living the Erickson Values. If you wish to acknowledge a special employee, nomination forms for employees are available at My Erickson/Forms. Please bring or send your nomination directly to the Administration Office, attention Emily Fowler, Emily.Fowler@erickson.com . Executive Director Don Grove promises that he “will make certain that [nominations] are shared and celebrated with appropriate manager and team members.”
