Pet Group Meeting Minutes May 2025
Charlestown Pet Group Meeting Minutes May 27, 2025
David Elder opened the meeting at 11:04. 20 members were in attendance.
Minutes from the April Meeting were approved.
Resident Council Website: Hope Tillman, webmaster for the Resident Council website, ccicharlestown.org, showed us how to use the website. Either enter the website address – ccicharlestown, org or use google search to get to the home page. The site is open to the public and has no password. Look for the ICON for the Pet Group – the cat & dog. The Pet Group section includes the updated Resources List. There is no app for phones, but Hope showed how to add the page to your phone home screen.
Hope also showed the Pet Gallery of pets at Charlestown and a Memoriam section. If you want your pet(s) included, send a picture to Hope with pertinent information. If you need assistance with that, or if you have a paper picture and need it scanned, contact Hope for help. Hope and Betty Elder also volunteered to take a photo for you.
Thank you Hope for all the work on this useful website.
Old Business:
- It is imperative that all pet owners read and follow the rules as stated in the Resident’s Handbook Appendix E. or we could lose the privilege of having a pet. The book clearly says, “Pets must be on a leash or in a cage at all times when outside your apartment and should never be allowed to run free.” Please remember that some residents have a fear of dogs or allergies to cats and be considerate.
- Items are collected for donation to the MDSPCA. If you have any items for donation, bring them to the meeting or contact Elsie Kemp or Otto Greul. Contact information can be found in the Resident Directory, available online in MyErickson. If you need any items, let them know.
- Cat Clinic information Date: May 30. Clinics are held In the Cross Creek Arts Room from 8 – 11 am. Please call Dr Nesbitt directly (410-869-0800) for an appointment. Cat Clinic dates will be on ccicharlestown.org. At this time, no additional visits are scheduled. If you are looking for a cat vet and can transport your cat, Dr. Nesbitt’s office is on Rt 40 near the Double T Diner.
New Business:
- Dave received a report that a resident with a dog on a retractable leash allowed the dog to approach another resident. When that resident asked to keep the dog away, the owner did not. Please be respectful of other residents when walking your dog.
- You should have a magnet with information for each pet on your refrigerator for emergencies. You should list a local contact who will take care of your pet. This person should also have a key to get into your apartment. The Pet Group does not have access to apartments. Unless you have made special arrangements with your Building Rep, the Building Rep is NOT your emergency contact. Again, they do not have access to your apartment.
- Baltimore County requires that pets, both dogs and cats, be registered with the county. Registration must be renewed annually between May 1 and July 31. You can register your pet online at Apply for and Renew an Animal License | Baltimore County Government or mail the application form to the County. We have printed copies available for those who need them. Let Carolyn Troy know if you need a paper application. Note: a copy of the current rabies vaccination form is required with the application.
- There was an incident with a pet in the Short Line Café. We will let the Administration know of the concerns.
The group has 233 residents with 205 pets: 116 cats, 86 dogs, 2 birds, and 1 rabbit.
NEXT MEETING – June 24 in Brookside Classroom 2. Meetings are always on the 4th Tuesday at 11AM (no meeting in July, August, and December) in Brookside Classroom 2.
Items donated at Meetings: If you would like any of these items, let David, Otto or Carolyn know.
