Charlestown Pet Group Meeting Minutes March 25, 2025

Otto Gruel called the meeting to order at 11:00. 11 members were in attendance. Minutes from the February Meeting were approved.

Building Reps in attendance were introduced:

  • Marty White – ST, WO, CW
  • Ginger Banville – AS, CY
  • Carolyn Troy – BR

The Building Rep is your nearest source of help. A complete list of Building Reps is available at Pet Group | Charlestown Retirement Community Residents

Old Business:

  • It is imperative that all pet owners read and follow the rules as stated in the Resident’s Handbook Appendix E. or we could lose the privilege of having a pet. The book clearly says, “Pets must be on a leash or in a cage at all times when outside your apartment and should never be allowed to run free.” Please remember that some residents have a fear of dogs or allergies to cats and be considerate.
  • Items are collected for donation to the MDSPCA. If you have any items for donation, bring them to the meeting or contact Elsie Kemp or Otto Greul. Contact information can be found in the Resident Directory, available online in MyErickson. If you need any items, let them know. We have a storage bin holding these items and we can look there.
  • The updated Resource List is available on the Pet Group | Charlestown Retirement Community Residents.

New Business:

  • Otto has spoken to the Catonsville Cat Clinic. They are extremely busy at the moment. They have not given any dates for the rest of the year. Otto will keep working on this. If you need a vet, you can go directly to their clinic on Route 40 in Catonsville. There are other vets listed in our Resource list on ccicharlestown.org. There is a mobile vet on that list who can come to your apartment. Resident Barbara Ryan is willing to drive residents to a vet if times can be worked out.
  • Rabies shots and licenses are required for both dogs and cats in Baltimore County. The licenses expire on July 31 each year. The period to get a license begins May 1. We will have more information at the April meeting.
  • Otto had a Good Housekeeping Magazine with several cat articles. A list is provided for anyone who would like to read it. Add your name and pass it on when you have finished.

The group has 232 residents with 204 pets: 115 cats, 86 dogs, 2 birds and 1 rabbit.

NEXT MEETING – April 22  in Brookside Classroom 2.

Meetings are always on the 4th Tuesday at 11AM. (no meeting in July, August and December) in Brookside Classroom 2.
