Charlestown Pet Group Meeting Minutes 9/23/25
David Elder opened the meeting at 11:05. 14 members were in attendance.
Minutes from the June Meeting were approved.
Old Business
- It is imperative that all pet owners read and follow the rules as stated in the Resident’s Handbook Appendix F. or we could lose the privilege of having pets. The book clearly says, “Pets must be on a leash or in a cage at all times when outside your apartment and should never be allowed to run free.” This includes hallways and outdoor areas near patios. We have had reports of unleashed dogs in hallways and trying to get into elevators. This could be a falling hazard for other residents. When taking your dog outside, use the nearest exit to your apartment. Dogs should not be walked through the halls or into common areas. This applies to dogs of guests as well.
- Items are collected for donation to the MDSPCA. If you have any items for donation, bring them to the meeting or contact Elsie Kemp, Otto Greul or Carolyn Troy. Contact information can be found in the Resident Directory, available online in MyErickson. If you need any items, let them know. We have a storage bin holding these items and we can look there.
- Cat Clinic information: Currently we have no dates for the Cat Clinic. If we get any dates, they will be posted on ccicharlestown.org. If you are looking for a cat vet and can transport your cat, Dr. Nesbitt’s office is on Rt 40 near the Double T Diner. Call Dr Nesbitt directly (410-869-0800) for an appointment.
- Baltimore County requires that pets, both dogs and cats, be registered with the county. Registration must be renewed annually between May 1 and July 31. You can register your pet online at Apply for and Renew an Animal License | Baltimore County Government or mail the application form to the County. We have printed copies available for those who need them. Let Carolyn Troy know if you need a paper application. Note: a copy of the current rabies vaccination form is required with the application.
- The updated Resource List is now located at ccicharlestown.org. Select Pets at Charlestown, then select Local Pet Resources.
- We encourage owners to post pictures of their pets on the Pet Yearbook.
Contact Betty Elder for more information or for help.
New Business
- The MDSPCA picked up donations. We had a flat bed and 2 grocery carts full. They were particularly appreciative of the food. They run a program to give pet food to people who are having financial difficulties. This allows them to keep their pets. If you would like to help, consider donating food or you can donate directly to the MDSPCA.
- Allyson Chlada, Coordinator of the Pet Visitor Program, is leaving Charlestown. There will be someone taking over the program.
- Father Leo’s Blessing of the Pets will be at the Chapel on Friday, October 3 at noon.
- David reported that there is a Charlestown mail account that can be used to communicate between pet owners. He will get us information on how to access and use this account.
The group has 239 residents in 176 apartments with 239 pets: 117 cats, 87 dogs, 2 birds.
Sadly, the rabbit, POTUS, has passed away.
NEXT MEETING – October 28 in Brookside Classroom 2. Meetings are on the 4th Tuesday at 11AM.
(no meeting in July, August, and December).
