“Spring is April’s way of saying,
‘Let’s Bloom.’”
Vita Sackville West

After this winter of below freezing cold with snow and ice by the foot, it is a relief to feel warm air on the skin and to need sunglasses again. While some people may make New Year’s resolutions, spring brings my resolution to get outside and up my step count by walking the perimeter of our property, heading down the nature trail or circling the now clean and sparkling lake.

This spring’s walking anywhere is especially sweet for me after endless months of sciatic pain. I want to shout out “Thanks!” to the Shuttle drivers who are endlessly kind, patient and helpful to those in need of assistance. I feel fortunate to have gone from a walker to a cane to just two feet. I am working at maintaining my exercise program in hopes of keeping that pain from returning. Meanwhile I will walk where I can inside and out.

Although this winter’s cold has slowed the appearance of the daffodils that fill the previously drab hillsides and gardens, even seeing the shoots poking up makes my heart skip a beat in anticipation of the glory that will come. Finding those already blooming brings a smile. Knowing that the blossoms of the cherry and pear trees will once again make our campus a vision to behold has me looking forward to their promise. April is full of promises.
While nature’s beauty is slowing unfolding outside, April is offering plenty to enjoy within our walls and the variety is amazing:

Starting with UMBC’s Jazz Band on the 8th at the Shortline, The Embassy String Quartet on the 12th in the Chapel, everyone’s favorite, Catonsville High School’s Steel Band on the 17th in the auditorium, Hotel Paradise Orchestra on the 19th in the Chapel and bringing it all to a lively close is the Little Theatre Company’s production of “Fiddler on the Roof” on 21st and 28th at 2pm and 23rd &30th at 7pm in the auditorium.

Where else can people have the opportunity to enjoy such a musical selection at an affordable price and no driving is involved? Thank you to Jennifer Tillett and her Committee, the Chapel Concert series Committee and The Little Theatre Company for providing us with such enjoyable programs. Welcome to April’s bounty.

May we all enjoy all that this April brings to us both inside and out.

“Let April’s light guide you toward a season of hope and fulfillment.”
