We wanted to provide an update regarding handicap parking spaces on campus. We have a certain number of accessible parking spaces available, and many are located close to an entrance or loading zone. Accessible parking spaces are intended to be available for residents and guests who need to use them but are not intended to be long-term parking.

Over the years we have had several complaints from residents that vehicles are using the accessible parking spaces for long-term parking, which creates a hardship for others who need to use the accessible parking space. Therefore, to allow access to these spaces to more residents, especially those who need access for short periods of time, we are implementing a 24-hour time limit on these parking spaces.

Effective September 26 we have installed signs that limit parking in an accessible parking space to 24 hours.  Residents and guests should not park in these spaces for more than 24 hours. Violators may be subject to fines or other penalties.

If you have a disability that requires accommodation, please contact Administration to review and discuss further. As an equal housing opportunity provider, Charlestown is committed to providing housing, which is free from discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, or national origin.

We appreciate your cooperation and support as we work together as a community to address this concern.

Sincerely,
Don Grove, Executive Director
