scholarshipAs we transition from Holiday cheer to the 2016 New Year, it is gratifying to be reminded of past kindnesses we have bestowed upon Charlestown’s scholars who have met our expectations and who need our financial help to continue their education.

The Charlestown Scholars’ Fund is currently mailing tuition checks to colleges for 101 students who are currently working or have recently worked at Charlestown. This program is fully funded by our residents and our generous donations will continue these Scholarships for up to a total of 8 semesters as long as the students maintain a 2.5 grade point average (GPA) or a comparable grade at an accredited educational institution.

These students earned scholarships by working at Charlestown for at least 1000 hours and maintaining a 2.0 GPA in high school. This year’s candidates will be required to have a 2.5 GPA to qualify along with their 1000 hours completed by the end of the school year.

In December, Scholar Committee members met with our 2016 candidates at Staff Meetings to remind them to pick up their applications on January 4 and to turn them in February 5 by5PM.

Our Philanthropy Department will qualify the applications. Scholars will then be notified of their eligibility and required attendance at meetings on Tuesday, February 16 and 17, in the Auditorium to receive their Scholarship Questionnaire Packets that need to be completed byApril 8 to remain compliant.

Any further questions may be directed to our Scholar Committee members: Art and Michelle Chenoweth, Pat Kasuda, Leigh Anne Cooper, Betty Ruff, Norma Goldberg, Roland Gray and Charlie Eichenlaub.

Please make a personal note that the Scholarship Donation Campaign starts on March 14 and continues through May 6. All donations are 100% Tax Deductible. Please be generous. The students need our help!
