Charlestown Pet Group Meeting Minutes March 24, 2026
Otto Gruel opened the meeting at 11:05 a.m. 6 members were in attendance. Minutes from the February meeting were approved as distributed.
Old Business
- It is imperative that all pet owners read and follow the rules as stated in the Resident’s Handbook Appendix E. or we could lose the privilege of having a pet. The book clearly says, “Pets must be on a leash or in a cage at all times when outside your apartment and should never be allowed to run free.” Please remember that some residents have a fear of dogs or allergies to cats and be considerate. This also applies to visiting pets.
- Pet owners are reminded that Charlestown requires all dogs and cats must have a current Baltimore County Pet License
- Items are collected for donation to the MDSPCA. If you have any items for donation, bring them to the meeting or contact Elsie Kemp, Otto Greul, or Carolyn Troy. Contact information can be found in the Resident Directory, available online in MyErickson. If you need any items, let us know and we can check the storage bin.
- The updated Resource List is now located at ccicharlestown.org. Select Pets at Charlestown, then select Local Pet Resources.
New Business
- Katie Flory, director of the Maryland SPCA, is coming to our meeting in April.
- If another resident is taking care of your pet in their apartment, remember to move the Pet Paw Print to that door.
- If you need to see the Catonsville Cat Clinic, call Dr Nesbitt directly (410-869-0800). We currently have no schedule for clinics on site.
- We have a tall cat tree and a small new dog crate in the storage area. Please let Carolyn or David know if you are interested in either of these items.
- After the meeting, we received a response from General Services about the Dog Run near Charlestown Square. “There’s no new information at this time, other than that the dog park on the front lawn will remain in its current location in front of the garden area. It will be out of use until August, when the project is expected to wrap up.”
The group has 242 residents with 208 pets: 122 cats, 84 dogs, and 2 birds.
NEXT MEETING – Tuesday, April 28 in Brookside Classroom 2. Meetings are always on the 4th Tuesday at 11AM. (no meeting in July, August, and December).
