Sandtown Connection
Lon Chesnutt, Leader
Since the Baltimore uprising in 2015, Charlestown residents have tried to listen, learn, and understand more about Sandtown. Action groups collaborate with the New Song Learning Center, healthy food program, neighborhood cleanup, job training, getting out the vote, advocacy, and supporting youth programs.

Check out the Shortline display case this month, shining a spotlight on the Charlestown-Sandtown Connection (cSc). Since its inception in 2016, Charlestown residents volunteer and provide financial support to four nonprofit organizations in the Sandtown-Winchester area.
Turnaround Tuesday (TaT) is spotlighted in the display. TaT’s mission is to equip, train, and connect returning, unemployed, and underemployed individuals to living-wage employment opportunities.
The Turnaround Tuesday (TaT) display features Terry Burr, a TaT client known for his remarkable crocheted animals. Despite being a wheelchair user, Mr. Burr relies on the income generated from his stuffed animal sales to supplement his social security disability, showcasing the resilience and creativity within the TaT community.
Regular volunteers are Jack and Jane Anderson, volunteers since 2016 and Joyce Rose for the past year. They volunteer at Stillmeadow Community Fellowship in West Baltimore.
