Charlestown Pet Group Meeting Minutes 03/26/2024

Otto Gruel, registrar, brought the meeting to order at 11:02. 19 members were in attendance. Minutes from the February Meeting were approved.

Old Business

● It is imperative that all pet owners read and follow the rules as stated in the Resident’s Handbook Appendix E. or we could lose the privilege of having a pet. The book clearly says, “Pets must be on a leash or in a cage at all times when outside your apartment and should never be allowed to run free.” Please remember that some residents have a fear of dogs and be considerate.
● Items are collected for donation to shelters. If you have any items for donation, bring them to the meeting or contact Elsie Kemp or Otto Greul. Contact information can be found in the Resident Directory, available online in MyErickson. If you need any items, let them know.
● Cat Clinic information: Dates: May 31, June 28, August 23, October 4, December 13. Clinics are held In the Cross Creek Arts Room from 8 – 11 am. Please call Dr Nesbitt directly (410-869-0800) for an appointment.

New Business

● Melanie from the PNC Bank branch at Charlestown brought dog treats and hand sanitizers to our meeting. She explained the services of the bank.
● Otto gave updates on the items he has been discussing with the Administration:

The lady who comes to apartments to trim nails is not licensed. Therefore, her services will not be advertised by Charlestown. If you use her services, you should bear this in mind. Her contact information is Lauralee McGuire – 443-867-6714.
Otto will get in touch with the mobile vet to get licensing information to get approval for his entrance to Charlestown. He charges to come to your site and charges for the services. He is willing to waive the travel charge if he has multiple appointments. Otto will try to get a date for him to be here and will let everyone know.
The idea of working with MDSPCA for resident fostering is not being supported. There could be issues that Charlestown staff would have to deal with in the event of a resident’s incapacity or death.

● Joan Malpass is contacting the businesses on our resource list. When she is finished, the list will be updated.
● The Boarder that was recently used by resident Myrna Markowski is: Homewood Pet Resort, 3001 Wilkens Ave, Baltimore
● Not announced at the meeting – 231 residents have 198 pets. 84 dogs, 110 cats, 2 birds, 1 rabbit, 1 lizard.

NEXT MEETING:  April 23 in Brookside Classroom 2. Meetings are always on the 4th Tuesday at 11AM. (no meeting in July, August, and December.).
Otto received a call after the meeting. A resident that has passed away had 9 year old bonded indoor cats that need a home. If they have to go to a shelter, there is a good chance that they may be euthanized. If you would be interested in these cats, or know someone who is, please contact Otto.
