President’s Remarks for the April 1, 2023  Sunburst Issue

At the Residents’ Council Work Session in March we met with the Administration and the Resident Members of the Board of Directors (BOD) to discuss the results of the Holleran Survey and proposed plans moving forward. Executive Director Don Grove will talk about these with the residents at large soon. Opportunities for candid conversations have resulted in developing a strong partnership with Administration and greater interaction with the BOD to achieve the best possible outcomes.

We met with the Strategic Planning & Capital Oversight Committee of the BOD to review the architectural plans for the Historic District and requested additional changes which will be considered. Happily, many wishes expressed by residents in previous focus groups were incorporated into the plans. The Board must now decide which proposed projects can be budgeted for.

Please know that the BOD does not get involved in day-to-day issues nor do our Resident Board members take the “Residents’ Side” on issues.  As residents, they understand our points of view, but all BOD members have the obligation of Duty of Care, that is, the best interest of Charlestown and its mission must come first when making decisions.  It is the Council’s job to bring resident issues to the Administration for resolution and they in turn discuss them with the BOD.

The next Residents’ Council Meeting will be held in the Auditorium on Tuesday, April 4 at 3:00 PM.
