Charlestown Pet Group Meeting Minutes 5/28/2024

David Elder brought the meeting to order at 11:05. 16 members were in attendance. Minutes from the April Meeting were approved with the following correction: 110 cats.

Old Business

• It is imperative that all pet owners read and follow the rules as stated in the Resident’s Handbook Appendix E. or we could lose the privilege of having a pet. The book clearly says, “Pets must be on a leash or in a cage at all times when outside your apartment and should never be allowed to run free.” Please remember that some residents have a fear of dogs or allergies to cats, and be considerate.
Items are collected for donation to shelters –  If you have any items for donation, bring them to the meeting or contact Elsie Kemp or Otto Greul by email or phone. Contact information can be found in the Resident Directory, available online in MyErickson. If you need any items, let them know. The MDSPA Wishlist will be included with the meeting notes.
• Cat Clinic information Dates: August 23, October 4, December 13. June 28 visit has been cancelled. Clinics are held In the Cross Creek Arts Room from 8 – 11 am.
Please call Dr Nesbitt directly (410-869-0800) for an appointment.

New Business

• A moment of silence was held for Pat Rudolph. Pat was a Pet Group Member and served as a Building Rep. Pat passed away suddenly in May.
• Resident Teresa Thomas is willing to be a dog walker/sitter for other residents. Otto will add her to the Resource List.
• The updated Resident Handbook is available online and hardcopies at the front desks. A change to Appendix E that will affect pet owners is “All dogs and cats must be registered with the appropriate jurisdiction.”
• The pet licensing period for Baltimore County runs July 1 through June 30. The renewal period is May 1 – July 31. A penalty will be applied after July 31. The application can be found at:
Apply for and Renew an Animal License – Baltimore County
• David asked all residents to keep an eye out for apartments with pets and no pawprints on the door. If you know of someone, let Otto or Carolyn know. They will get the Welcome Package to them.
• All owners should make sure that they have made arrangements for someone to take care of their pet if they are unable to (hospitalization, etc.). You might want to give another resident a key if needed.
• A question was asked about the designation of service and support dogs. There are different rules for each classification. This is not something that the Pet Group gets involved in.
• Again, there was a report of dog droppings not being picked up. This time on Erickson Way. Pick up after your pet. Make sure that any visitors walking your dog, or bringing a dog know the rules. If you are aware of anyone not following the rules as outlined in the Handbook, contact Mary Evans, Resident Life.
• The group has 229 residents with 202 pets: 111 cats, 86 dogs, 3 birds, 1 rabbit and 1 lizard.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:50. NEXT MEETING – June 25 in Brookside Classroom 2. Meetings are always on the 4th Tuesday at 11AM. No meeting in July, August, or December.
