History
The Charlestown Scholarship Program was established in 1988 by John Erickson. To date, generous residents have contributed more than $4 million to provide scholarships to more than 1,300 employees for post-high school education in any accredited college, university, trade or vocational program.
This unique program supports the mission of Charlestown to support our employees and offer opportunities for growth and advancement. For many of our scholarship recipients, the awards make a difference in their ability to continue their education and follow their dreams.

SCHOLARS’ COMMITTEE NEWS
Mel Milio, Chair
Happy spring, Everyone! We made it through all the ice and the cold and the wind! I am grateful.
The Committee has been busy. Interviews for 12 students who applied for the Named Scholarships were held at the end of last month. Committee members are now hard at work deciding which students will be awarded these additional scholarships. These students are bright, hard-working and wonderful. They have definitely earned our support.
April is a big month for the Scholars’ Program. It is the month for the Scholars’ Campaign which runs April 1 – April 30. You should have already received information in your cubby about how to make your donation. The students’ commercials have begun airing on Ch. 972. Their smiling faces are also appearing on posters at the restaurants and cards on the tables. Each of them has a story to tell. All of them are interesting.
Please plan to attend the graduation ceremony next month. It is in the Conference Center on May 21 at 6:30 p.m. This is when the students find out which of the special scholarships they have been awarded. Let’s show them how proud we are of their achievements and wish them well as some will be leaving Charlestown this summer, heading for new adventures.
