History
The Charlestown Scholarship Program was established in 1988 by John Erickson. To date, generous residents have contributed more than $4 million to provide scholarships to more than 1,300 employees for post-high school education in any accredited college, university, trade or vocational program.
This unique program supports the mission of Charlestown to support our employees and offer opportunities for growth and advancement. For many of our scholarship recipients, the awards make a difference in their ability to continue their education and follow their dreams.

Farewell and Good Luck to our College Bound Scholars!
This month, we will say goodbye to some of our scholarship award students as they venture off to their respective colleges. As stated during the May ceremony, some students chose a school in other states to pursue their paths of learning, which will require leaving not only our Charlestown community but also their home, family, and friends.
The Charlestown Scholar Fund has 103 students who are currently in our program and will be attending various colleges and universities this fall. The Philanthropy staff has begun processing checks to distribute to our Scholars’ schools as their reward for working hard at Charlestown and at school. All the scholarship checks are mailed directly to colleges and universities. These scholarships can help alleviate some financial burdens, and sometimes make the difference in being able to earn a degree.
Thank you to all of our residents who donated to the Scholars’ Fund this year. Our official Scholar Fund Campaign will be next April, but if you are interested you can drop off your donation anytime to the Philanthropy Office in the Cross Creek Lobby or sign up for a monthly contribution plan on your Resident Account. Online, you may use the MyErickson website Gift Box Donate icon for contributing to the Scholar Fund. Non-residents can log in to the MyErickson as a guest to donate. Consider it as a thank you to all the student servers, dining staff, and other hard-working employees who are looking to continue their education. All the monies collected are dedicated to the Scholars’ Fund and are 100% tax-deductible. Any questions about the program may be directed to Lisa Zehring in the Philanthropy Office at 410-737-8838 x8397.
I would like to once again share my appreciation to our Scholar Committee members: Norma Goldberg, Roland Gray, Mel Milio, Marie Skane, Ed DeLong, Jackie Graham, Eugenia High, Mimi O’Donnell, Elva Tillman, and to the Philanthropy Department team of Patti Santoni, Emily Fowler, and Lisa Zehring for all of their ongoing efforts with our Scholar Program.
If you were unable to attend the Scholar Ceremony on May 18,2022 or if you want to enjoy it again, the video is available on MyErickson under Community Videos/Philanthropy/ Charlestown Scholars. Thank you again for your support, and please wish our 2022 Scholars good luck on their next journey!
