At Charlestown, I am in the Fireside Arts Club, work with the Parkinson’s support groups, and participate in bridge groups and cycling and yoga classes in our gym.

I also serve as the Chaplain and Board member for an outside group. I enjoy playing cards, Chinese Mah Jong and Gamers. I value cruising and travelling, my granddaughter, my small terrace garden, my cat, and playing bingo. I feel it’s time for me to resume my council membership as my variety of skills and interest in our Charlestown home will assist me in working for my fellow residents.

We moved here about 2 years ago. I love the campus; I’ve made a lot of friends among the employees as well as the residents. It’s really become my happy place. I have lived in Maryland for 40 years. I started my employment as a teacher but quickly moved to customer service, office management and finally to Human Resources. I loved the diversity in our company and started a summer intern program, an international lunch where people brought in dishes from their country of origin or background and other social events. I love interacting with people and helping in whatever way I can.
Sandy Mack
After my retirement as Vice President of Sales and Marketing for the MTR Construction Company, I was caregiver to five family members and a friend all of whom had dementia.
I’ve lived at Charlestown for over five years, and I am the current president of the Fireside Artists. I enjoy volunteering in memory care at Wilton Overlook; I am co-leader of the Bead and Jewelry Making Club and a resident ambassador. As a member of the Residents’ Council, I plan to voice your concerns, advocate for needed changes, and work with the administration to positively affect our living environment.

My wife Doreen and I moved from Delaware to Charlestown two years ago. My background is primarily as an Army intelligence officer for 31 years, in Thailand, Germany, Arizona, Maryland and at the Pentagon. My final assignment was as the Director of the Army’s Counterintelligence, Human Intelligence and Security programs and the policy and budget that govern them on a worldwide basis. After my retirement I worked for the MITRE Corporation, a federally funded think tank, for 15 years. I served on MITRE teams at the FBI, and a variety of Army and Air Force intelligence organizations. My volunteer experiences here at Charlestown include Putterland, Treasure Sale, Finance Committee, Sales Ambassador, and as coach for student scholarship applicants. If elected to the Resident’s Council, I will strive to maintain and expand the excellence of Charlestown and serve the best interests of my fellow residents.

I am a retired Pediatric Nurse Practitioner of 34 years and a current professor at UMB School of Pharmacy. I moved to Charlestown in 2022 to support my mom and during that time have personally enjoyed the many activities at Charlestown including playing with the Charlestown Sluggers and growing with the garden club. I am a set up volunteer for the Treasure Sale, a Birthday Angel, and a member of the dietary focus and pet groups. I’ve come to know many residents on walks with my pup Riplee who also loves to explore the beautiful campus here. I look forward to being a liaison for Charlestown residents and forwarding the goals of the community by working closely with the administrative team.
Gary Rogers
I have been a resident of Charlestown since August of 2022. Since that time, I have been active on the Resident Council’s Safety and Security, Maintenance and Engineering, Grounds, Conservation and Communications Committees. I helped to reestablish the Charlestown Amateur Radio Club and currently serve as its President. During my work career, I served in leadership positions at FEMA where I was responsible for the day-to-day management of $6 billion in grant funds and as Deputy Chief at Anne Arundel County Fire Department where I responded to hundreds of fire and medical emergencies.
Cathy Stevens
I moved to Charlestown in the summer of 2016. Prior to that, I practiced law in Howard County and Baltimore City. Once I settled in, I became a duplicate bridge player, and I performed in four plays produced by the Little Theater Company. I have worked the Treasure Sale, and I am also a Friendly Visitor, meeting with new residents. In the last election, I became co-chair of the Dining Services Committee. As co-chair of the Committee I have worked hard to bring residents such things as a buffet brunch, QR Code cards, the availability of kids’ meals, and the no-salt condiment on each table. I would like to continue this work.

My career was in libraries, ending as Library Director at Babson College in Massachusetts. I have been active in state and national professional associations, including as President of Special Libraries Association 2001-2002. My husband Walt Howe and I lead the Genealogy Club. I teach tech classes for ELLIC and serve on its Steering Committee. I served on the Council from 2018-2021. My personal website is: www.hopetillman.com. I’m happy to run for the Council, as I believe it is important to contribute wherever I live.

I’m a lifelong educator with experience working with pre-K to adults. After retirement, my husband and I travelled the world then settled at Charlestown in September 2019. During COVID, we knew we had made the right decision. To help others after my husband’s passing, I joined Charlestown Sandtown Connection (cSc), tutoring at New Song Academy and serving as secretary on the cSc board. At Courtyard Crossing, I helped initiate a program with meet-and-greets and activities to create a family atmosphere here at Charlestown. As a member of the Residents’ Council, I look forward to helping residents in all neighborhoods.

My wife Sandee and I moved into Charlestown from our home in Catonsville in 2017 to take advantage of the active community and medical security offered here. Sandee passed away in 2023, but her time here was enhanced by the care and services that Charlestown provides. I would be honored to serve as a member of the Residents’ Council by offering my talents, knowledge, and experience gained from forty years in the corporate world with the American Standard plumbing division, where I worked in various accounting and marketing roles as well as in sales, sales management and product development.

I have lived in Charlestown since February of 2022. Since arriving I have had the chance to explore doing things I never had the time for before retirement. I have had a very diverse career and volunteer history. I owned and operated 2 small businesses, have worked as a CPA in many industries, not-for-profits & have won a MD SBA Award in 2014. I have been a Girl Scout Troop Leader, PTA Co-President, formed Study groups, Charity Sewing projects, visitation programs, served as an ASG President in Florida, Eucharistic minister in Severna Park Maryland & Charlestown and I enjoy visiting Wilton Overlook and Caton Woods. I look forward to serving our Charlestown on the Residents’ Council.
