December is the only month when a Monthly Book Review is not scheduled. The auditorium is in great demand and the staff and residents are focused on holiday festivities. During the year many people make it possible to gather and hear reviews of widely-published books, including fiction and nonfiction bestsellers.
Our book reviewers generously devote time to reading , reviewing and delivering presentations to an audience of interested readers.
Special thanks go to the presenters in 2024, as follows: Mimi O’Donnell, Ken Weeden, Elva Tillman, James Jones, Donna Martin, Ed Appel, Chilton Knudsen, Paul Rao, Justine Parezo, Lon Chesnutt, Eugenia High and Mark Buehlman. Resident Ralph Strong coordinates tech support with his team. Their creativity and versatility are greatly appreciated. Charlestown staff provide information for the community. Deanna Booker and the Sunburst staff publish the monthly column while Brittany Owens and the Community Resources staff post notices in the bulletin cases. Tom Moore and the Channel 972 team tape and air previews prior to each review. Sara Nixon publishes supplementary background on each book and/or author on ccicharlestown.org. The transportation department is available for shuttle service for attendees.
In her book How Reading Changed My Life, author Anna Quindlen stated, “Books are the plane, and the train and the road. They are the destination and the journey. They are home.” Whether you are traveling, celebrating locally or reading a good book, have a wonderful holiday season! The next Monthly Book Review will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.
