The Charlestown Unit of the League of Women Voters of Baltimore Co. cordially invites you to a showing of the 2014 film Selma, by Paul Webb, directed by Ava DuVernay, starring David Oyelowo, Carmen Ejogo, Oprah Winfrey, Lorraine Toussaint, & Cuba Gooding, Jr.
Selma is a historical documentary of the 1965 march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama to protest racial voter discrimination despite the Citizens Rights Act of 1964. The movie takes us from Bloody Sunday at the Edmund Pettus Bridge, to a court injunction limiting marchers to 300, and finally to Martin Luther King, Jr. leading 25,000 protestors to the State capital in Montgomery, with LBJ’s introduction of the Civil Rights Act of 1965 along the way.
A discussion will follow the movie.
Wednesday, July 17, 2-4:30 p.m. in the Auditorium.
All are welcome. Admission is free.
