MD FWD @ Charlestown met at 1:00 in CTS 116 on Thursday, 03/05/26. Thirteen club members attended.
Lee Bradshaw, Legislative Lead for MD FWD, spoke about his work during the legislative session, January-March, creating relationships with MD legislators and their staff so MD FWD can influence particular legislation that align with FWD’s election reform priorities. He educated us on what he has learned about how MD’s legislative process works. Lee also walked us through how to use the General Assembly website:

There are half a dozen printouts of Lee’s slide deck available on my package shelf. Please help yourself to this information.
HOW OUR CLUB CAN HELP WITH LEGISLATION:
Lee noted bills are posted at a very rapid rate to the General Assembly website and can be overlooked. Sometimes there are 200 new bills a day. All proposed bills must be dealt with during the January – March session. This year there were more than 2,000 bills introduced.
Although it is too late for our club to help with the 2026 session, Lee would like us to organize now for the 2027 session.
There are 75 people who have registered with Charlestown FWD and are sent this email each month. We need some people to join small teams willing to accomplish specific tasks that would only require a few hours of time during the legislative session. Ideally, there would be 3 people on each team so that they could cover for each other in case of travel, illness, etc.
The tasks would be:
1. Check the General Assembly website twice daily during the legislative session (January-March 2027) for bills concerning FWD priorities.
2. Email Lee when relative legislation is proposed. https://www.
3. Activate MD FWD members to contact legislators to support the appropriate bills.
If you are attuned to the goals of the Maryland Forward Party, please commit to making these reforms a reality! Email Rose Ann Wade to volunteer your service. Contact information can be found in the Resident Directory, available online in MyErickson.
OUR NEXT MEETING: Thursday, April 2, 2026, 1:00 p.m., CTS 116 – We will discuss how we can help FWD make it possible for voters registered as “Independent” to vote in MD primaries.
