March 1, 2026

Thanks to your donation, I am able to continue my education at the University of Maryland, College Park as a Biological Science Major on the pre-med track. Your generosity has reminded me that there are kind-hearted individuals like you who believe in the potential of students like me and are willing to invest in our futures.
With Deepest Gratitude, Gabrielle O’Dell, 2025

Dear Fellow Residents,

This year is the 38th Program anniversary of the Charlestown Scholars’ Program, which is primarily funded by donations from our residents. These donations enable us to provide two types of scholarships, a Traditional 4-year Scholarship and a One Year Scholarship (renewable) which is available to our adult staff studying course work relevant to Charlestown. Currently we have 84 active scholars in the program, some of whom will be graduating in the spring. The 2026 applicants are required to have worked 1,000 hours at Charlestown, have a 2.5 or better GPA and must be an employee in good standing prior to being accepted into the Scholars’ Program.

Our scholars will receive up to $5,000 a year ($2,500 per semester) for up to four years. They will also receive a one-time $1,000 Technology grant to assist with purchasing a computer, etc. Scholars can also apply for “Named Scholarships” in addition to our Traditional scholarship. Applicants need a 3.0 GPA or better and must meet with the Scholarship Committee to be selected.

This year we have a higher number of Scholar Candidates than we have had in recent years: 33 Traditional and 3 One Year Candidates! Last year 55% of our residents contributed $254,158 to the program. This year we are hoping for more of you to contribute so that our goal of $300,000 raised can be reached.

The 2026 Scholar Campaign will start today and run through March 31st. Donations may be made by cash, check, credit card or resident account. Checks should be made payable to CCI- Scholars’ Fund. Donations to the Scholars’ Program are considered a charitable contribution and are tax-deductible as allowed by law. For your convenience, your donation can be placed in the enclosed envelope and dropped off in the lobby boxes or to the Philanthropy Office in Cross Creek. Monthly donations are also an option. Contact Philanthropy to work out the details. I encourage you to make your contribution online via My Erickson. You can simply visit My Erickson.

There is no better investment than in the future of a bright young mind. Consider how they have helped us each day. Helping them back is a thank you that will last forever.
