As we enter the fall season, we anticipate the return to school, the beginning of beautiful weather and the inspiration for new activities.

Why not initiate your own fresh start by visiting The Gallery at Charlestown? September marks the introduction of Fireside Artist of the Month Betsy Granek. Betsy began her professional career as a Registered Nurse, having earned a B>S> in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Public Health. She worked in a variety of settings and with diverse populations, the last 20 years as a licensed Massage Therapist. “I still will occasionally give a massage,” says Betsy.

When she retired, Betsy began taking classes in drawing and painting, and she says that her creativity juices began to flow. “My creativity box was quite small as a child,” recalls Betsy. “Dolls were not me. I suppose the many letters I wrote displayed creativity. My creativity was in my body as an athlete and tomboy,” but she says that she always had pencils, pens and notebooks at home. “Now when I draw or paint,” says Betsy, “I am in my happy place. I have begun using charcoal most of the time, and find it integral to my work. What you will see is a progression of my work and ideas.”

Stop by The Gallery to enjoy the work of Betsy Granek, along with the paintings and photography of the more than 50 talented members of the Fireside Artists of Charlestown.
