The Fireside Artists of Charlestown (FAC) invite you to enjoy the beautiful installation of artwork in the Gallery, each piece of art created by a Charlestown resident.

Having grown from seven painter friends in 2010, the Fireside Artist membership now numbers 50 painters, photographers, illustrators, calligraphers, ceramists, fiber artists and more.

The FAC installation features an artist of the month, whose work is displayed on the lefthand wall as you enter the gallery.

December’s artist of the month is Sandy Mack. Sandy says that her love for art began when she took art classes while at Western High School. One of her favorite memories was having to create a self-portrait while looking in a mirror. On any given Sunday, Sandy’s parents knew they could find her sitting on a bench at Fort McHenry, sketch book in hand. Sandy loved drawing trains for her dad, who worked for the B & O railroad.

An acrylics painter, Sandy moved to Charlestown in February, 2020, just before Covid entered our world.

“Being able to paint during those months of isolation is what helped me get through the pandemic,” she says. “The best part of being a painter,” she says with a smile, “is I never have to buy any artwork for the walls of my apartment.”

Everyone interested in art is invited to attend FAC’s meetings at 10 a.m. on the second Tuesday of the month in room 116. We do not meet in December, June, July or August.
