Multiracial Awareness Discussion Group Meeting

History of Racism: Continuing Discussion

Friday, January 13, 2023

10 AM – Noon

Art Gallery in Charlestown Square

Why study racism? What was left out of what we learned in school? Why is it so important to learn this now?

Through video presentations and small group discussions we will continue to seek to address some of the many questions surrounding the importance of understanding the untold story of our country. This lays the groundwork for addressing the issues of equity and justice today.

The January program, a video lecture by Dr. Jacqueline Battalora, will focus on the life and laws of Colonial Maryland and Virginia and when the word “white” first appeared in legal documents. We will also continue our discussion of the “Doctrine of Discovery,” emancipation and western expansion as told by a Navajo, Mark Charles

Everyone who is concerned about racial justice and equity is invited to attend. For more information or to be added to our email list contact Lois Schmidt or Joan Green. Contact information can be found in the Resident Directory, available on MyErickson.
