Scholars' Program

Thank you for the generous support for our 2020 Scholars Campaign. We do not have a total because we have extended the deadline to make a donation, so there’s still time to contribute. An easy way to do this is to call Lisa Zehring in Philanthropy at 410-737-8838 x8397 to make a credit card donation by phone (credit card numbers are encrypted for extra security). Alternatively, you can leave your donation in your green outgoing mail bag and it will be delivered to Philanthropy (no stamp required).

We have 24 traditional 4-year scholar candidates who will join the 109 currently in the program. In addition, we have 8 employees who are returning to school to advance their studies through the new 1-year scholarship program. Please know, the Philanthropy department and Scholars Committee recognize resident concerns about including upper-level management employees for the 1-year program and we will be taking those comments under advisement and making changes to the criteria next year. Our committee is currently working to determine the recipients of the special Named Scholarship awards and will share that information in the June edition of Sunburst.

Given our circumstances with the current restrictions on large gatherings, we will not able to hold our usual May Scholars Ceremony. Donors to the campaign will still receive the Scholars Program (listing all donors) along with the Book of Letters – a wonderful collection of thank you notes written by our scholar candidates.

A special note of appreciation to our Scholars Committee members: Norma Goldberg, Roland Gray, Mel Milio, Marie Skane, Ed DeLong, Jackie Graham, Eugenia High, and Mimi O’Donnell. and also to the Philanthropy Department team of Patti Santoni, Emily Fowler, and Lisa Zehring.

We will miss celebrating with you in May but thank you for your generous and on-going support for our students!
