Low Vision Support Group
David Graham, Leader
This is an education, support, and advocacy group for residents with low vision. Low vision is a visual impairment that affects an individual’s ability to perform everyday tasks such as reading, seeing faces, doing crafts, hobbies and other activities. It results frequently from eye conditions such as macular degeneration glaucoma and other eye conditions, illness, injuries, or, quite simply, the aging process.
At our meetings you can:
- Share practical tips for daily living
- Learn about magnifiers, lighting, technology, transportation and other resources
- Discuss the challenges and changes that come with vision loss
- Meet people who understand your experiences
- Find encouragement, information and connection
Everyone is welcome, including adults living with low vision, care partners, family members and friends.

What is low vision?
Low vision is a permanent, significant loss of visual function that cannot be corrected with glasses, surgery, or medication. It means that you can see detail clearly. It makes everyday activities like reading, recognizing faces, or viewing electronic devices difficult.
Why wear a law vision ribbon?
The LOW VISION ribbon, attached to your Charlestown badge, alerts residents that you cannot see as well as they can. It is a symbol of awareness that you may need assistance with reading menus, prescription bottles or anything else important to you. It also suggests that walkers, drivers (scooters and power chairs) may want to provide extra caution when approaching you.
