Power Outages
The community is equipped with an emergency generator that should activate soon after a power outage. Once on emergency power, the following systems will normally be working:
- Emergency Pendants, Pull Cords and Fire Detection Systems
- Hallway/Stairway Emergency Lighting
- One (1) elevator per Residential Building
- Regular corded telephone that plugs into a wall jack
- There are RED outlets throughout the community that will work during power outages. These are specifically designed for people who need constant power, i.e. people using home oxygen or other life support equipment. If you have a device that needs to be plugged in, please contact Security and Emergency Services for assistance. We advise that you purchase and safely store a long power cord that will connect your device to the designated RED outlets in the hallway. There are limited outlets so we will prioritize life support/safety equipment.
Once on emergency power, the following systems will not work in your residence building:
- Residence Heat/Air Conditioning
- Residence Electric
- Hot Water
During a power outage, please turn the thermostat to OFF. Feel free to turn it back on once power is restored. It will take approximately 10 minutes for the compressor to kick back on. Also be sure to keep your refrigerator and freezer doors closed.
DO NOT use candles or open flames during a power outage. Please have battery operated flashlights or lanterns and extra batteries on hand in the event of a power outage.
If the community determines that the main power may be out for an undetermined amount of time, you will be provided with additional information and direction.

Gatehouse Operations
February, 2026
Considering recent events around the world, we are taking a conservative approach to enhance the safety and security of our community. We have reviewed our standard operating procedures with our security team and expect them to use professional discretion when screening visitors at the gate.
License plate reader technology has been added to allow employees and residents to enter without a puck or swiping your card. Security continues to reinforce the need to balance screening those who enter our Community with their person centered approach to hospitality and first impressions. Uniform appearance and pre-scripted greetings are also critical to their operations. However, if you have changed license plate numbers or you are having problems coming through the gate, call Bre Jones, Asst. Security Manager or email your correct plate number, name, and apartment to her or the email address below.
Pre-verify your visitors to enter Charlestown:
Email the info to CCI-Dispatchers@erickson.com or call Security Dispatch at 410-737-8806 in advance of your unregistered visitor’s arrival. You are asked to provide the following information: the name of the visitor, the approximate date/time of arrival, and the location where to direct your visitor.
Please note: All Food deliveries/ Instacart/ Delivery drivers that will be arriving should be reported to Security so they have the correct building and apartment numbers to direct them to.
Pre-screened visitors do not need to be verified to enter Charlestown:
Registered visitors who have already been pre-verified by Security and issued a unique numbered registration pass (sticker or hang tag) to aid in their entry will be admitted into the community.
Unregistered visitors will be stopped at the gate:
Security and Emergency Services Officers will obtain the visitor’s name(s) and determine the reason for the visit. The SEO should then complete the verification process by calling the individual being visited. Once approved, the SEO will issue the appropriate passes, a map if unfamiliar with the Community, and open the gate to allow entry.
Unverified visitor:
If you cannot be reached by Security, the Officer will inform the person that they will need to get authorization before access can be granted. The visitor will be asked to exit the property.
Contact info:
If there are further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Asst. Security Manager, Bre Jones, at 410-737-8808, extension 601-8808.
