Keeping You Engaged & Informed

• Poetry Contest Update: The winners have been selected and will be announced on Channel 972 at 10 am beginning Monday, Memorial Day! Tune in & hear the winning entries.
• In Home Scavenger Hunt: The hunts will continue and will be distributed every Friday. The next drawing will be June 1st. If you play weekly, your entries will be part of the weekly drawing! So sign up & return your completed hunt!
• Mystery Bag Bonanza: We’re receiving some amazingly creative entries into our competition! Remember the only rules are that the bag be the main focus of the project and that we receive a picture of the item by May 29th (We can come take a picture if you need).
• COVID Crazy Crowns Competition: (Idea from Margaret Gardner) Many of us have hair that is out of control or hair that we have regretfully decided to cut on our own while shops have been closed! Submit a picture of your crazy crowns, entries will be narrowed to the Top 6 and put on Channel 972 for your vote on the winner. Staff are encouraged to participate. Submissions are due by 6/7/20.
• Memorial Day Sing Along Video: Herbert’s Run residents participated in a Patriotic Sing-a-long that will air on Channel 972 on Memorial Day. Remembering June 14th, Flag Day we will host another Sing-a-long. Stay tuned for more details!

Computer Related Activities:

Virtual Escape Rooms: Find your way through a virtual escape room! These are exciting and they get your brain working a lot. Think your way through a variety of escape rooms to gain freedom. You could even make this a family friend event via zoom!
Virtual Choir: This is currently in the works and we would love more participants. Anyone who has a smart phone will most likely be able to participate. Headphones or earplugs are also helpful. Contact us to get involved!
BLOG: Start a blog about any number of topics: Your life, your experiences during this pandemic, anything you are an expert on or that you have a lot of experience with. Blogs can be used for just family and friends or can be used by the general public. You can choose your settings on who you want to make the information available to. Check out this link that explains about blogs, what they are for and how to get started. 
Make a Yarn Bird: Do you have leftover yarn you’re not sure what to do with but don’t want to throw away? Check out this cute little yarn bird that is simple to make!

 

Non – Computer Related Activities:

 • Weekly Writing/Journal Topic of the Week: What period of your life do you look most fondly back on and why? Feel free to share your responses; email them or send them through inner community mail. We would love to get to know you better. They will be kept confidential.
• Happy Hour: Reminder that Sherry Parrish hosts a happy hour on Channel 972 every Friday at 5:30 pm. Tune in with your drink and find out who her surprise guest will be this week!
• Trivia, Name that Tune, and Craft Corner will begin soon! We know you are eagerly awaiting their start. Please stay tuned as more details will follow in next week’s issue!
• Reusing Veggies to Regrow: Rita Tschiffely has started to use her old veggies to regrow new ones (see picture of her windowsill below). Simply take the core of a lettuce head or beet tip of a beet bulb place in water and watch it regrow. There are many other veggies that can be regrown such as: ginger, celery, garlic, ginger and herbs to name a few. If you would like “how to” instructions delivered, please contact us.
