Due to the great response and enjoyment, many received we have decided to turn our one-time scavenger hunt into a weekly event. Those who participated last time will automatically be registered. New sheets will arrive every Friday beginning the May 22nd. Contact us for rules and registration. Thanks to Pat Grey for the idea!
  • Poetry Contest Update: We have compiled all our poems and the judging is currently underway. Stay tuned for winners! We have had such a great response it is taking a bit longer to judge, stay tuned!
  • Mask Making: We have restarted our mask-making initiative due to demand and have now produced well over 1000 masks! This has been done all with donated materials from residents. We are currently looking for elastic if anyone has some they would like to donate please let us know.
  • Mystery Bag Bonanza: The Bonanza is in full swing now and several residents are getting their creative juices flowing! It is not too late to sign up! Call to register, only rules are that the main focus be made from brown bags and submissions are due by May 29th
  • Partnering with 972: Stay tuned for details on our upcoming events on 972: Name that tune with Johnny Powell, Trivia games hosted by “Friends of the Archives”, and “Crafting Corner” with Mary Evans.

  • Online Bridge: A resident inquired about online Bridge games so we thought we should share. Here is a link to online Bridge games. We are currently looking into ways to host online bridge games where you would play against fellow residents. If there is anyone currently doing this or would like to help develop this idea, please contact us. None of us newsletter producers know how to play bridge so your expertise would be greatly valued.  Maybe we will learn a thing or two about the game in the process.
  • Psychologies: This website is AMAZING, a great resource for a wide range of mental health topics. If you are looking to join online support groups, strengthen your self-esteem, ideas on ways to calm anxiety etc. They have links to articles, support groups, videos, they even have a “Psychologies TV” section.
  • Virtual Choir: We have a lot of singers in our midst! We thought having a virtual choir would be a really fun project we could work on together. If you are interested in being a part of our virtual choir and have access to headphones and a smartphone or Ipad call our office and let us know you are interested. Once we have some names we will move forward with this exciting project. Each phase will take some time so be patient with us!
  • Garden Newsletter: Here is a link to some great gardening tips and ideas. There are even nature projects to do with kids, but I see them as things I would like to do myself so make sure to check those out also or pass them on to any kiddos in your lives.
  • Zoom Tutorial: For those interested in hosting a zoom meeting/ get together or if you just want to join a call here is a link to a video tutorial that teaches you how to use Zoom. Once you get the logistics down consider hosting a get together with those from your Charlestown groups, a happy hour, a game of cards with friends, or just to chat with one person you would like to see virtually. Once you are a pro think about reaching out to others you know that would benefit from you teaching them how to use this great system and walk them through the process. Your lesson could greatly impact the lives of those in quarantine for the positive. https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/206618765-Zoom-Video-Tutorials
  • Viking TV Arts and Music Day: Wednesdays Viking TV focuses their days on music and arts. They have composers, photographers, musicians, and other artists that share their creative talents with you. While you are there check out the other shows they offer. Thanks Roberta Poulton for the recommendation!

Non-Computer Related Activities

  • Weekly Writing/Journal Topic of the week:
If you had to throw out all but 3 of your possessions what would they be and why?
If you feel like sharing your responses with us feel free to email them or send them through inner community mail. We would love to get to know you better. They will be kept confidential.
  • Pillow Case Creativity: A resident (you know who you are) mentioned making pillows from pillowcases and it sparked some ideas. Use those old pillowcases you have laying around to make: a drawstring bag, a bag for your Rolater or EMV, chew toy for your dog, a microwavable hot pad, an apron, or even use as a dusting tool. There are many online instructions. If you would like us to look up “How to” instructions and print them for you, we would be happy to do that. If you decide to create something we would love to see what you came up with!
  • Happy Hour: Reminder that Sherry Parrish hosts a happy hour on 972 every Friday at 5:30 pm. She has a variety of guest hosts every week, this week the great Patti Santoni will be the guest. Grab your favorite beverage and tune in to see where you will be “traveling”.
  • Bingo: Join us, along with 165 (and growing) if your fellow residents bi-weekly for BINGO with Pam Stiner. It is not too late to register. Contact our office to register.
