Keeping You Engaged & Informed

• Trivia: It is not too late to register. Contact Mary Evans to sign up and receive your copy. Week #2 Trivia, created by resident Johnny Powell, will be distributed on June 26th.
• Crafty Creations Challenge: The 2nd Challenge is quickly approaching! If you haven’t already, sign up with Mary Evans to receive a package containing a variety of materials to spark your creativity. It is not too late to sign up. Contact Mary to receive the next package. Photos and winners of the first Challenge will be published in the next issue of the Connector!
• COVID Crazy Hair Winner: Anne Kredell (#6) was voted our winner for the competition! Congratulations Anne and thanks to all who participated and voted!
• Name That Executive Team Member: Test your skills by identifying Exec. Team members (and their department) from photos of them wearing a facemask. Fliers have gone out to those who registered but it is not too late to sign up. Completed participant sheets are due to the Community Resources office by June 30th.
• Mask Making Initiative: Residents have made well over 1500 masks! We are currently on hold to assess the need. Masks are available in CR or VP offices if you need one.

Computer Related Activities:

Happiness Challenge: Take the month long happiness challenge by using this link that will give you a calendar of small things you can do each day of the month to bring a little happiness to your days.
Underground Railroad Freedom Center: Discover the stories of freedoms heroes by diving into virtual exhibits from the Freedom Center.
Google Arts and Culture: Explore a cornucopia of topics geared towards art and culture. This site can provide hours of education and entertainment.
Volunteer Crisis Counselor: For this work you will receive a virtual 30-hour training and then use your skills to counsel people throughout the country in need.
Preparing for life after quarantine: This is a link to an article that will help prepare you for life beyond quarantine.

 

Non – Computer Related Activities:

• Weekly Writing/Journal Topic of the Week: Think about someone you really love. Write about that person and your feelings for them.
Feel free to share your responses; email or send them through inter-community mail.
• Father’s Day Channel 972: Watch the special Father’s Day presentation on Channel 972 airing on Saturday and Sunday: 10:00am, 12:00pm, 2:00pm and 4:00pm.
• Christmas in July: Based on Mimi O’Donnell’s suggestion, Christmas in July Challenge will soon kick off. Get ready to decorate your doors using recycled materials or craft items that you have in your home. No need to register. Once you have decorated your door call Community Resources so someone from the office can come take a picture or feel free to email it to us.
• Happy Hour: Happy hour with Sherry Parrish and a special guest airs every Friday at 5:30 on Channel 972. Join her and her quest with your drink of choice for a little non-COVID entertaining.
• Learn Technology: Now that we can get out a little bit, have a friend or family member stop by and teach you that technology program you have felt a need to learn during quarantine.
• 100 Drawing and Painting ideas: Contact Community Resources if you would like a copy of a list of ideas to spark creativity in your drawing and painting.
• Gardening for Samaritan Women: The Samaritan Woman organization needs volunteers to work outside and help with their gardening. To volunteer, email Jasmyne Cummings at volunteer@thesamaritanwomen.org

 

Additional Activities:

• Enjoy the Ribbon of Hope Fence: Take a walk out to the baseball field and enjoy reading some of the Ribbon of Hope messages staff and fellow residents wrote and tied to the fence during our “Moment of Remembrance” event held on June19th.
• Picnic: Make yourself (and maybe a friend) a picnic and go out to enjoy eating it in the beautiful weather. Maybe even throw in a bit of bird watching in while you are at it. Remember to wear your mask and maintain 6ft. distance!
• Stress Relief: Create a “to do list” for relieving stress. Make two separate columns on a sheet of paper, one titled “Do More” and one titled “Do less”. Under each column write the things you should do more or less of to relieve stress. Pick one at a time to focus on and begin applying to your daily routine.
Zero-Waste Projects: Create one of these helpful household products that help reduce, reuse and recycle.
Oversized Outdoor Bananagram/Scrabble: Create an outdoor life size scrabble game using 12 x 12 squares made from whatever material you choose (recycled bags, cardboard, cardstock etc.).
